Hello Towson,

Happy Halloween Weekend! 🎃

Candy corn, a Halloween staple, was first called “chicken feed” as it resembled dried corn kernels.

Americans consume more than 35 million pounds of candy corn every Halloween season, which equates to about 9 billion individual pieces.

This means if the total consumption were distributed equally everyone in the use would get about 26 pieces!

In this week's Towson Torch:

  • The Loch Raven UFO

  • New Dispensary and New Restaurants to Open

  • Editor’s Choice: Halloween Weekend Picks

  • Honoring Vicki Brick’s Legacy at UMD

    And lots more - let’s go! 🚦

Still Lives on 67 Years Later

UFO Sighting on 10/26/58 is still a Mystery

The reservoir itself is an important municipal water supply for the city and a serene recreational setting, making the sudden intrusion of the strange object all the more striking. - 🔥 Read the Article

Art & Culture

You might think its foolish, but according the Towson Creative Alliance, they are working with the Towson Chamber of Commerce, pursuing permission for a Ric Ocesek Tribute mural somewhere in the downtown district. Ric Ocasek, an 80’s rock icon, best known as the leader and primary frontman for the American new wave band The Cars,
actually spent his early years living right here in one of Towson’s adjoining communities.

Acclaimed local Brazilian artist (and punk rocker) Camila Leao has been commissioned by an anonymous donor to complete a design (below). The location is still being developed they work with Primary Wave Music for final rights. Towson’s public art initiative has delivers multiple creative landscapes throughout the district and this proposed project could prove to be just what Towson needed.
