When Towson visitors and residents search for a nearby restaurant, store or service, Google is no longer the only place where local businesses need to be visible.
Apple has started introducing advertising in Apple Maps, creating a potentially valuable opportunity for Towson businesses to reach customers precisely when they are deciding where to eat, shop or visit.
Apple Maps ads can appear at the top of relevant search results and within the app’s “Suggested Places” section. A Towson restaurant could promote itself when someone nearby searches for “dinner near me.” A boutique could appear when a shopper looks for gifts, while a salon could reach someone searching for a last-minute appointment.
Unlike a traditional display ad that interrupts someone while they are reading or scrolling, a Maps ad reaches a customer who is already looking for somewhere to go. That high level of intent could make Apple Maps especially useful for restaurants, retailers, entertainment venues, hotels, medical practices and other businesses with physical Towson locations.
The opportunity becomes even more interesting when combined with Apple’s new AI-powered Siri and macOS 27 “Golden Gate.”
The updated Siri can understand conversational questions, use personal context and help users take actions across applications. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app where users can begin conversations and return to previous searches.
A customer might ask, “Where can I have lunch near Towson University?” “What is a good place for happy hour close to the courthouse?” or “Find a local shop where I can buy a birthday gift today.”
Instead of presenting dozens of search results, AI assistants are increasingly providing a small number of recommendations. That means Towson businesses must position themselves to be among the places Apple can confidently identify and recommend.
Apple has not said that purchasing a Maps ad will guarantee placement within Siri’s conversational responses. However, Apple Maps, Siri, Spotlight and Apple’s business-information system are becoming more closely connected. A strong Apple presence could therefore become increasingly important as more people use AI to make local purchasing decisions.
The first step does not require an advertising budget. Towson business owners should claim their location through Apple’s business platform and confirm that their name, address, phone number, website, categories and operating hours are correct. They should also add current photos and make sure their information is consistent across their website and other online directories.
Once that foundation is in place, Apple Maps ads may be worth testing with a limited budget. Business owners should focus on meaningful results—including calls, website visits, reservations, requests for directions and in-store traffic—rather than impressions alone.
Apple Maps advertising will not replace Google, Facebook or other established marketing channels anytime soon. But it gives Towson businesses another way to reach nearby consumers at the exact moment they are prepared to act.
The businesses that learn the platform early may enjoy an advantage before Apple Maps becomes as competitive—and potentially as expensive—as other major advertising platforms. For Towson business owners, now is the time to claim your listing, improve your information and begin paying attention to Apple’s growing role in local discovery.
