Baltimore County Public Library Launches New Author Series with Erik Larson

Baltimore County readers are about to enjoy front-row access to some of today’s most celebrated writers. The Baltimore County Public Library (BCPL) has announced the launch of Booked for Baltimore County Public Library, a new blockbuster author series designed to connect the community with literary giants. The series will debut with none other than Erik Larson, the #1 New York Times bestselling author renowned for transforming history into page-turning narratives.

Larson will appear in conversation with BCPL CEO Sonia Alcántara-Antoine on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the ballroom of the Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel in Towson. Admission to the event is free, but advance reservations are required. Tickets will be available starting at noon on Thursday, August 21, through the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library’s website. Given Larson’s popularity, organizers anticipate seats will be claimed quickly.

Known for his meticulous research and storytelling prowess, Larson has earned a global following with works such as The Devil in the White City, Dead Wake, and In the Garden of Beasts. Each book blends rich historical detail with the pacing of a thriller, offering readers both education and entertainment. His ability to bring long-past eras to life has won him critical acclaim, literary honors, and devoted readers eager for every new release.

The September event promises not only a deep dive into Larson’s body of work but also a chance for the community to engage directly with one of America’s foremost nonfiction writers. For Alcántara-Antoine, the opportunity to launch the series with Larson reflects the library’s mission of expanding access to transformative stories.

“This series is about inspiring our community and bringing people together through powerful stories and conversation,” Alcántara-Antoine said. “We are excited to launch Booked for Baltimore County Public Library with such an extraordinary writer.”

The series itself represents the next step in BCPL’s longstanding tradition of presenting acclaimed authors to local audiences. Past programs have drawn sold-out crowds for writers such as Alexander McCall Smith and Colson Whitehead, underscoring the region’s appetite for live literary experiences. By securing Larson as its inaugural guest, the library signals its commitment to maintaining that momentum while elevating Baltimore County’s presence on the national literary stage.

The program is funded through the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library and made possible entirely by donor support, with special contributions from Bonnie Clark and M&T Bank. Their generosity ensures that events remain free and accessible to all residents.

Larson’s appearance is only the beginning. The 2025–2026 season of Booked for Baltimore County Public Library will feature an impressive roster of writers, including bestselling novelist Kate Quinn, beloved storyteller Jennifer Weiner, and 2025 Pulitzer Prize winner Percival Everett. Collectively, these authors represent a diverse range of voices and genres, promising something for every reader in the community.

As Baltimore County readers prepare to welcome Larson in September, the launch of Booked for Baltimore County Public Library underscores the power of books to unite, challenge, and inspire. For more information or to reserve seats starting August 21, visit foundationforbcpl.org.
