Happy Spring Equinox Towson! ☀️
Today the Sun will shine directly over the equator for the first time this year. As it crosses the celestial equator, day and night will be nearly equal in duration worldwide - marking the March (Spring) Equinox.

Jon Bregel is a multifaceted creative professional and cinematographer born and raised in Towson. He is known for his work as a director, cinematographer, and coach for filmmakers. Bregel's career spans various roles, including founding the influential production company Variable, where he creatively directed campaigns for major brands like Nike, Audi, and National Geographic.
Bregel has gained recognition for his cinematography in projects such as "Out of the Blue" (2020) and most recently "The Baltimorons", which just last week was recognized as an Audience Award Winner at the SXSW Film and TV Festival in Austin,
Texas.
"The Baltimorons" is a heartwarming comedy film directed by Jay Duplass, set to release in 2025. The story unfolds on Christmas Eve in Baltimore, following Cliff (Michael Strassner), a newly sober former comedian, who chips his tooth and meets Didi (Liz Larsen), a workaholic dentist. Their chance encounter leads to an unexpected adventure through the city, as they navigate closed impound lots, crashed family gatherings, and impromptu comedy performances. The film explores themes of loneliness, second chances, and unexpected connections, all while showcasing Baltimore's winter charm through Jon Bregal's cinematography. Duplass's direction and the chemistry between Strassner and Larsen create a sincere, funny, and poignant narrative that balances humor with genuine emotional depth.

And no, it had nothing to do with increased crime in Towson.
(By the way, crime did not increase in Towson last year, despite the popular narrative)
On the Border filed chapter 11 last week and announced that it will be closing 70 stores across the United States, including the Towson location. While people comment on the headlines with their own theories and blame rising crime for the closures, the fact remains that restaurants across America have been really struggling since Covid. In fact, the National Restaurant Association estimates that 16% of all restaurants in America, over 100,000 restaurants total, went out of business during Covid or in the years following the pandemic. Restaurant owners in Towson and all across America are working hard to figure out how to make up for the lean years and how to survive despite some obvious changes in people’s dining out habits. Despite some recent closures in the news, Towson continues to boast over 90 restaurants with new and exciting ones opening seemingly every week. You’ll continue to hear about them here on the Torch!
Stay tuned for our new Towson Restaurant Directory coming soon!
