The Orioles are the 2026 Baltimore Senior Baseball Over-40 Champs

The Orioles capped their season in championship fashion Sunday, rolling past the Athletics, 13-3, at CCBC Essex to claim the Baltimore Senior Baseball Over-40 League Championship.

James Doub led the Orioles’ offense with three hits and four RBIs, while a balanced lineup piled up 14 hits and drew eight walks in the title-game victory.

The Orioles wasted little time taking control. In the bottom of the first inning, Bryan Carter doubled home the game’s first run before Scott Mealey followed with a two-run single to give the Orioles an early 3-0 advantage. An Athletics error helped stretch the lead to 4-1 in the third, and the Orioles continued to add on from there.

Doub delivered an RBI single in the fourth and later put an exclamation point on the victory with a two-run single in the eighth. Elliot Flam, Jay Wolff, Mealey and Carter all finished with multiple hits as the Orioles consistently put runners on base and kept pressure on the Athletics’ defense. The champions also stole five bases.

Mealey did his part on the mound as well, allowing just one run on four hits over four innings. Levi Straight added a scoreless inning of relief as the Orioles limited the Athletics to three runs.

Domenic Staiti led the Athletics with two RBIs and went 2-for-4, while Gary Eikenberg Sr. also collected two hits. The Athletics remained aggressive on the bases, stealing nine, but couldn't overcome the Orioles' early lead and relentless offense.

The championship is the latest chapter in a league built around keeping competitive baseball alive for players over 40. Baltimore Senior Baseball describes itself as the premier over-40 men's baseball league in the Baltimore area. Sponsored by the Towson Recreational Council, the wood-bat league plays Sunday mornings from April through August at fields around the Baltimore metropolitan area and uses modified Major League Baseball rules with an emphasis on safety.

While the league welcomes players looking to recapture the experience of playing baseball, it also makes clear that the competition can be intense, with sportsmanship and fair play at the center of the league's philosophy.

On Sunday, that competitive season belonged to the Orioles. After reaching the championship game in 2025 but falling to the Nationals, 8-4, the Orioles returned to the title game and finished the job, this time leaving CCBC Essex as Baltimore Senior Baseball Over-40 champions.
