Hey Sippers! This week is a busy one, full of travel plans, parties, and celebrations of all shapes and sizes. When there is so much going on, finding the time to prepare and enjoy a delicious drink can often fall victim to the chaos, but don’t worry. I have exactly what you need to beat the heat and celebrate the season in style and with ease.

This week’s sip is actually what we call an RTD, or Ready To Drink, cocktail. If you’ve ever had a High Noon or canned crush, you’ve experienced an RTD before. These pre-batched beauties are the solution to the dilemma of “I want a cocktail, but I don’t want to make one or buy a bunch of random ingredients.” They are also great options for if you are going to a party and want to take something more interesting than beer or wine, but aren’t sure about batching out a cocktail by yourself. RTDs are here to help you enjoy something delicious without having to put much thought or effort into it. Especially in the season of travel, summer camps, and holidays, we don’t always have the bandwidth to think of what we want to drink, but we all still deserve to enjoy something great. As we celebrate Independence Day this weekend, it felt appropriate to head north to Massachusetts for this week’s sip. Including the Boston Tea Party, the battles of Lexington & Concord that officially started the war for American independence, being the home to several prominent revolutionaries including John Adams and John Hancock, and being the first state to make July 4th an official state holiday is 1781, Massachusetts is the birthplace of the American Revolution.

Meet the Pomegranate Codder from Boyd & Blair. Boyd & Blair have done an amazing job of acknowledging the gap in cocktail culture and have designed a fun line of products to fill it.

The Pomegranate Codder is a twist on a classic Massachusetts cocktail, the Cape Codder or Cape Cod, which is really just a simple vodka cranberry with lime. The cocktail was first created by Ocean Spray in the 1940s in an effort to boost their cranberry juice sales. It was originally called a “Red Devil” but the name didn’t really catch on, not surprising in the state originally colonized by the Puritans. Ocean Spray rebranded it in the 1960s to be the Cape Codder, a nod to the nearby beach community where a large percentage of their customers lived. Boyd & Blair’s twist on the classic uses their signature potato vodka and incorporates sweet pomegranate to balance out the bright cranberry and tart lime to create a festive ruby red gem of a drink. No mixology required-just pour over ice and enjoy!

As always, if you want to try this concoction, you can find it and me at the Spirit Shop Falls Road. We also have several other RTDs here for you to choose from if you want to try something different. You can also reach me at [email protected] for any questions, comments, or recommendations. I hope you all have a fun and safe holiday and if you find yourself out and about, stop by and see me-cheers!
