Every October, Baltimore and the surrounding region celebrate Italian culture, history, and family traditions through one of the area’s most anticipated events: the Italian Heritage Fall Festival. The festival returns to Towson on October 18, 2025, bringing with it a vibrant mix of music, authentic food, cultural showcases, and activities for all ages.
At the heart of the festival is Alexander Tarasco, General Chairman of the event and a first-generation Italian American who has been part of festival planning for years. For him, the event is not just another date on the calendar but a deeply personal commitment to honoring and preserving heritage. “This event has been a part of my life since childhood,” Tarasco said. “To now serve as General Chairman is both an honor and a responsibility to carry on a tradition that has meant so much to generations of families.”
A Festival Rooted in History
The Italian Heritage Fall Festival has a history stretching back more than 130 years, originally tied to Columbus Day celebrations in Baltimore’s historic Little Italy. For decades, the event began with a Mass at St. Leo’s Church, followed by the Columbus Parade and a lively street festival.
In 2023, organizers made the decision to relocate the celebration to Towson, a move designed to expand access for people from surrounding counties while taking advantage of the Towson Courthouse Plaza’s larger footprint. “October is Italian Heritage Month, and this festival honors that legacy,” Tarasco explained. “The move to Towson gave us more space for vendors and cultural activities while creating a central gathering place for the community.”

Towson’s Embrace of the Festival
The transition has been a resounding success thanks to support from Baltimore County and local partners. “We couldn’t ask for more assistance and cooperation,” Tarasco said. “From the County Executive’s office to the Department of Public Works, the Police Department, and the Towson Chamber of Commerce, everyone has been instrumental in making the process of permitting and setting up smooth for us.”
The Towson Courthouse Plaza has become the centerpiece of the festival, offering both convenience and a sense of community for thousands of visitors each year.

What’s New and What’s Back for 2025
This year’s festival promises to build on its momentum with both new highlights and returning favorites. One major attraction will be the Italian Cultural Center, located in front of the historic courthouse, showcasing Italian American history and traditions.
Visitors can also look forward to:
A soccer demonstration from the Baltimore Blast
Dozens of vendors serving up some of the region’s best Italian food, plus seafood, wine, desserts, and more
A bustling beer and wine garden
Artisan crafts, jewelry, and specialty items
Live music, with the Monaldi Brothers opening the festival, followed by a procession of Italian American organizations, and the band Great Train Robbery closing out the weekend

For families, the Children’s Area offers games and activities, while adventurous eaters won’t want to miss the Sausage Eating Contest, a crowd favorite.
When asked if the festival is “just for Italians,” Tarasco chuckled: “We have plenty of attractions for all. I’m sure anyone who comes will enjoy the food and entertainment. There’s something here for everyone.”
Giving Back to the Community
The Italian Heritage Fall Festival isn’t just about celebration—it’s also about giving back. Proceeds from the event support a range of community causes, including donations to the Baltimore Police Foundation and the Towson Chamber of Commerce. For 2025, the festival will continue to grow its impact by funding a scholarship program for local students, ensuring that the celebration of heritage also creates opportunities for the next generation.
Open to All
Accessibility is a priority for organizers, who are committed to keeping the festival free and welcoming to the entire community. Admission is free, with convenient parking available in surrounding lots for just $5.
For Tarasco, the Italian Heritage Fall Festival represents more than a weekend event. It’s a bridge between generations, a showcase of culture, and an open invitation to experience the warmth of Italian tradition. “October is Italian Heritage Month, and this festival is our way of honoring that history while sharing it with everyone,” he said. “Whether you’re Italian or not, you’ll feel like part of the family when you’re here.”
A Weekend to Remember
With its combination of rich traditions, dynamic entertainment, and community spirit, the 2025 Italian Heritage Fall Festival is poised to be one of the year’s standout cultural events in Baltimore County.
Mark your calendars for October 18, 2025, and make your way to Towson Courthouse Plaza for a weekend filled with history, flavor, and festivities that embody the heart of Italian heritage. From the aroma of fresh sausage and pasta to the sound of live music echoing across the plaza, the festival is sure to deliver an unforgettable experience for the entire community.
