BALTIMORE (October 14, 2026) – Edenwald Senior Living’s highly anticipated INSPIRE expansion will break ground on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 2 p.m., marking a major milestone as the project enters its construction phase. An eager crowd of Priority Depositors, local dignitaries, and construction partners are expected to attend.

Spanning more than 284,000 square feet of new construction on three acres of the Goucher College campus, INSPIRE will feature three new residential towers, a lively outdoor plaza, and a collection of amenities and learning spaces unlike anything the region has ever seen. Central to this transformation is a deepening relationship with Goucher College, which is set to make Edenwald the foremost college-enriched senior living community in Maryland. 

“This groundbreaking is a major achievement. Seven years in the making, Edenwald Senior Living and Goucher College have worked in true partnership to create a first-of-its-kind college-enriched senior living community,” says Mark Beggs, President and CEO of Edenwald Senior Living. “For more than 140 years, Edenwald and Goucher have served Baltimore and have been innovators in our fields. The hallmark of INSPIRE will be the three towers, collectively offering 125 residences. Tower 1, which is known as “InspireONE,” will stand 11 stories tall and hold 47 residences; InspireTWO and InspireTHREE will each rise to eight stories tall with 39 residences. Every residence will have access to underground parking, and a pedestrian bridge will seamlessly connect INSPIRE to existing Edenwald buildings. Nestled between the three towers, an impeccably landscaped outdoor plaza graced with shady pergolas, an outdoor yoga area, and café seating will provide a tasteful backdrop for gatherings of all kinds.

“Goucher College required a best-in-class design to move the INSPIRE expansion forward,” says Beggs. “Our collaboration produced a shared vision that balances Goucher’s mid-century modern design aesthetic and the existing Edenwald campus. We are thrilled with the outcome.”

There’s plenty of inspiration taking place indoors as well. Residential apartments will feature open floor plans, gracious amenities, and floor-to-ceiling windows that will shower each residence with abundant natural light while providing scenic views of the Goucher College campus. Spacious, well-appointed one-bedroom and den, two-bedroom, and two-bedroom and den apartments will range from 1,100 to 2,100 square feet.

As the epicenter of residential life, InspireONE will house two dedicated classrooms and a 45-seat theater, both of which will set the scene for classes, lectures, meetings, workshops, and other lifelong learning programs in conjunction with Goucher College. A chef-inspired dining venue will also grace The Plaza Level. The crown jewel of InspireONE will be a rooftop multi-purpose event venue, complete with indoor and outdoor seating.

Key to Edenwald’s metamorphosis into a college-enriched senior living community is an amplification of the community’s decades-long partnership with Goucher College, which will continue to infuse the energy of a college campus into the community.

As part of this evolving partnership, Edenwald residents will have the opportunity to participate in intergenerational educational and cultural opportunities—such as attending international study abroad programs, auditing Goucher College classes, and collaborating with students in a cooperative community garden. Residents will also have access to live performing arts, lectures, and other cultural events on campus for free or at a discounted rate, as well as to the college library.
