Hello Towson and Welcome to the Weekly Sip!

My name is Haley Shubert, and I am your friendly neighborhood wine nerd. I have spent 15 of my 29 years (so far) working in restaurants, taking classes, and reading books to learn as much as I possibly can about wine, spirits, cocktails, and food. I am so excited to share my passion for interesting, respectful, and responsible enjoyment of food and drink with you. My goals are to show you that there is something in every category for every consumer, to help you learn how to best enjoy the sips you love, and possibly help you find your new favorites. Let’s get started!

I figured since this is my first post, the best place to start would be with one of my personal favorites, so that’s what I’m doing. This week’s sip is the Y-Series Sangiovese Rose from Yalumba Vineyards.

The Y-Series Sangiovese Rosé from Yalumba Vineyards is a Perfect Segue into Spring!

When I first picked up this bottle, I was baffled by it. Sangiovese is a bold, rich red wine grape that is typically grown in Italy and used to make Chianti. So what on earth is it doing being grown in South Australia and vinified into RosĂ©? Well, the answer is something amazing. Notes of sweet cinnamon and pink flowers give way to ripe strawberries and just a hint of rhubarb earthiness all wrapped up in fresh light cream. If you’re finding yourself stuck between the red wine haze of winter and the crispy white wines of summer, this is the perfect wine for you. Bright on the nose, yet luscious on the palate, this rose is the epitome of seasonal transition in a bottle. Pair it with a nice charcuterie and cheese spread along with some fresh berries for the perfect spring picnic. It even matches the cherry blossoms!
