On this day in history in Towson…

What does four decades of success in Baltimore area real estate teach you about building a meaningful life? For Towson native Wayne Gioioso, the answer has less to do with chasing the next big opportunity than knowing when to walk away from one. The founder of Towson’s Mid-Atlantic Properties credits his career to an unexpected set of principles: delayed gratification, controlling ego, ignoring β€œshiny objects,” staying close to mentors and finding the courage to ask. But Gioioso’s philosophy doesn’t stop with business. The same rules that helped him build wealth ultimately changed how he gives it away and what he considers success.

Robert Newman of Stanley Black & Decker Joins Expert Panel Discussing Skilled Trades at Towson Growth Summit on September 16th

Robert Newman, Vice President of DEWALT Strategic Initiatives, Commercial & Industrial at Stanley Black & Decker, will join a panel of local experts focused on skilled trades and workforce development at the upcoming Towson Growth Summit.

The event will take place Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Goucher College Athenaeum, 1021 Dulaney Valley Road in Towson.

The skilled trades discussion comes at a critical time for employers across Greater Baltimore. As demand for qualified tradespeople continues to outpace the available workforce, local businesses, educators and workforce organizations are looking for new ways to attract people to the trades, expand training opportunities and build a stronger pipeline of skilled workers.

The Towson Growth Summit is partnering with hometown industry leader Stanley Black & Decker to help convene that conversation.

Back to School Safety

Prevention Belongs in Every Back to School Plan

Every back-to-school season requires our families and educators to prepare. We organize classrooms, review policies, complete training, buy supplies and build schedules. Yet one of the most important preparations is too often left off the list: making sure children have the language, confidence and trusted relationships they need to speak about body safety.

On Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Bloom Safe: Make America The Safest Place To Be A Kid and The Mama Bear Effect will host the free virtual Back to School Children’s Book Author Panel. The one-hour Zoom event is open to everyone, with a special focus on parents, teachers, educators, school staff, administrators and other adults who care for children. Advance registration is required.

Weather

Muggy

🌀️ Weekend Weather:

Saturday is shaping up to be the wetter of the two days. Periods of rain and thunderstorms are expected, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s. Some downpours could be heavy enough to reduce visibility and leave water on area roads, so anyone with outdoor plans should keep an eye on changing conditions.

Sunday should bring some improvement, with a high around the low 80s. Showers and thunderstorms will still be possible, but rain chances appear lower than Saturday's, and some forecasts suggest breaks of sunshine during the day.

Overall, expect a muggy and unsettled weekend in Towson.
