Baltimore County Proposes Purchase of St Pius X Property

Baltimore County is seeking approval to buy the St. Pius X Catholic Church property in Towson for $6 million, with plans to expand neighboring Forge Park to include additional athletic fields and other recreational amenities.
Located in a densely developed part of Towson along the busy York Road corridor, the 10-acre grounds include the former St. Pius X church and school, a rectory, a convent, a parking lot and athletic fields. The county submitted the proposed purchase contract at a work session in Towson Tuesday. The council is scheduled to vote on the proposed move Monday. Proceeds will most likely benefit the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen parish, into which St. Pius X was merged. -Read Full Article
🛡️Seven ways Towson area residents can protect themselves
from online scammers:
Online scammers stole nearly $200 million from Marylanders last year. Technology, especially AI has made it harder and harder for people to identify when they are being preyed upon by a scammer, especially the elderly. A “white hat hacker” and popular Youtuber from the channel Scammer Payback recently revealed some of the more common and effective scams as well as steps to avoid them. Here are their seven basic tips on how to protect yourself from scammers:
Never trust caller ID alone. Scammers can make calls appear to originate from legitimate banks, government agencies, and businesses. Hang up and call the organization using a number you independently verify.
Be suspicious of urgent financial demands. Criminals often create artificial emergencies to prevent victims from thinking clearly or consulting someone they trust.
Never transfer money to a so-called safe account. A legitimate bank will not require you to move your savings into another account to protect them from fraud.

🧽Built in Baltimore County: Meet Spunj, where connections start in person

Your next business partner, mentor, or friend could be someone you meet over coffee in Towson. But a great first conversation is only the beginning. Keeping that connection alive is where relationships takes shape.
That’s the idea behind Spunj, a professional networking app built right here in Baltimore County by Restyn, a software studio based in Owings Mills (that is also the parent company of the Towson Torch).
Now soft-launching on the Apple App Store (the Android version is still in the works), Spunj puts a simple principle at the center of networking: you have to meet in person to connect and you have to have been to a business to be able to recommend it.

Mike Rowe (Towson University Class of 1985) says CEOs are freaking out' over barriers to recruiting skilled trades workers
Mike Rowe, former host of Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel is now CEO of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, where he discusses the shortage of skilled trades jobs in America. Electricians, welders and HVAC technicians are commanding six-figure salaries as companies poach workers from rivals.
"I don't want to overstate it, but I can tell you that not a week goes by that I don't hear from the CEO of some consequential company or some industry leader who is straight up freaking out over the barriers to recruiting," Rowe said, adding that many large U.S. companies are establishing their own training programs to attract workers to the skilled trades.” -Read Full Article
