Feature Story

For more than 120 years, the Towson 4th of July parade has celebrated the lives of men and women who have served our country. Many are not with us today because they have made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives.
It is thanks to them that we celebrate this grand day. It is also a time to pause and give respect and praise to all who have served in times of need so we could continue to have the freedoms our forefathers dreamed of and fought for. These freedoms are part of our daily lives and shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Let us forever remember the bravery and sacrifices of those who have served our country so we can continue to be the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Happy Birthday America!

Contentious affordable housing project in Towson faces test
The proposed 56-unit affordable housing development in Towson has survived court challenges, loud opposition from concerned neighbors and legislation meant to weaken its standing. Now the embattled project, Red Maple Place, faces another roadblock. The developer, contending with a funding gap, has asked Baltimore County for a $2 million loan, a request council members will review at a public meeting Tuesday and vote on later this month.

A rendering shows Homes for American's plan for Red Maple Place, an apartment building on Joppa Road that would have 50 affordably priced units and six market-rent units. The developer is seeking an additional $2 million loan from Baltimore County for the project. (DS Thaler & Assoc.)
Goucher College Surpasses Goal and Raises More than $170 Million During Capital Campaign.
“True to the campaign name, the Goucher community remained undaunted throughout this campaign and rallied together to support the next generation of Goucher graduates," said Kent Devereaux, Goucher College President. "Whether it was expanding scholarships and fellowships, adding three new endowed professorships, or creating thoughtful new living-learning environments in our dining and residential halls, Goucher's close-knit, multi-generational community was foundational to our success."

More Awards for the Baltimorons
An Update on our Baltimorons article, the soon to be released “Christmas Classic”, as critics are calling it, was filmed in Baltimore by Cinematographer and Towson native Jon Bregel, along with Director Jay Duplass. The film just won the Audience Award at the Nantucket Film Festival, and Director Jay Duplass received a Spotlight Award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival. Add these to the Audience Award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, this film set to release before Christmas, is fastly becoming one of the most anticipated releases of the year, especially for folks in Baltimore who have been following it closely.
