🫆WMAR Returns to Towson with Follow Up Report on Crime

On June 5th, in response to a WMAR news report on restaurant closures in Towson Square we wrote an article that shared data demonstrating what actually contributed to the closures, not only in Towson but across the nation. Over the past few years, media headlines about crime in Towson have fueled outrage and have support negative narratives on social media where commenters freely blame rising crime for the closures, without having any data to support the claims. Our article was widely read and shared, and seems to have caused enough stir to have WMAR return for a follow up story posted yesterday, titled The Unblinking Eye of Crime Fighting in Towson. Despite once again using a somewhat rebel rousing headline WMAR deserves kudos for finally taking a step away from the typical coverage Towson has received over past few years. Instead of leaning into the negative narrative the report mentions that according to Police, crime in Towson has in fact dropped 8% over the last year and dives into the role that surveillance cameras are playing in deterring crime in downtown Towson.

Dear Sarah,

I’m a 56‑year‑old man living in Towson. Recently, my friend told me she is divorcing her husband of the past 20 years and she is beginning to date again. In a way, I'm jealous that she's getting a fresh start to her life. And it’s complicating things for my life. I feel like I don't deserve a fresh start because I never really had a start to begin with. I never got married. I've moved from career to career, but nothing that I felt connected to. Maybe I still don't know who I am or what I really want. I'm not unhappy with my life but I'm not really satisfied. I'm not even sure what question to ask.

How the hell do I start over when I never really started?

Signed,
More than a midlife crisis
